2007 A Turning Point
Heather Roan Robbin

2007 begins 6 years of astrological patterns that will turn the course of modern history. Solar flares are scheduled to pick up speed this year, peaking in 3-4 years, energizing and empowering life here on earth, pouring energy into our cultural restlessness, questioning the powers that be and systems that no longer work. It’s the year to analyze our problems and activate; initiate changes, in ourselves, our community, and our world, that we want to unfold over the next 5 years.

Saturn opposes Neptune 2/28, again 6/25, then enters analytical Virgo. History shows us that Saturn oppose Neptune asks us to deal with our addictions; that which makes us weak because it reduces our free will. It asks us instead to reconnect with healthy Neptune; spirit, our inner guidance, and nature.

We will be called to use our Saturnine empowerment, the wisdom and strength we’ve grown through age and experience. This aspect puts backbone into our dreams and asks us to be willing to sweat for our goals. We can get depressed if the spark has gone out of old dreams and visions, or if our situation has become too oppressive. If so, it’s time to explore new options and become re-inspired, even if it means risking new forms or new medium.

Saturn opposed Neptune can lead to a crisis of confidence in the old system, but also opens up opportunity to create healthier, more imaginative ways, though that takes a while, and needs our patience and durability. Women’s voices will offer important leadership for compassionate and creative change.

Religious tensions simmer over the next few years; we need to listen to our inner voice, hold the light open, and refuse to participate in spiritual restrictions. We may be asked to deepen our own spiritual discipline, but to refuse participation in any form of spiritual willfulness or imposition, Saturn’s shadow side which will try to tighten, even in our own communities and with one another.

As Saturn opposes Neptune and enters health-conscious Virgo 9/2, we may be confronted with health challenges that reassesses what supports our personal, global and ecological health. It’s time to strengthen our personal immune system, and stay tuned into the health of our oceans, water, damns, floods, water irrigations systems, and how hydrated we are. Watch our world confront its addiction to oil, another form of Neptune.

2007 begins with a challenge, as Mars conjunct Pluto 1/13, intensifying our focus and desire nature, asking what really makes us passionate and what is a good use of power. Conflict may flare in the world around us; we’ll need to keep our hearts engaged even as we strengthen personal boundaries.

Liberating Jupiter squares electric, revolutionary Uranus three times this year, 1/22, 5/10, and 10/9; we are all agents of change. We may get irritated, frustrated that the changes we seek begin now but are slow to ripen, but need to remember this is big; it takes a lot to move mountains, pace ourselves. This restlessness is a general malaise, a creative discontent, it’s easy to misinterpret it as something wrong with our house, work or partner, but it’s probably deeper. If we don’t start by jettisoning life-supports, but instead clarify and declare our goals and then invite dear ones to come along, we may be powerfully surprised.

Watch the counter-culture ferment, bubbling creativity and revolutionary experimentalism grows in the adolescents, and the adolescent in us all. Expect some interesting technical innovations, effective alternative technologies small and large. This Jupiter–Uranus square stimulates a desire for excitement, and can help us take risks; we just have to be sure they’re worth it.

Expansive Jupiter forms a supportive trine to contractive Saturn 3/16 and 5/5 and encourages strange alliances and unlikely friendships or co-operation; liberal and conservatives will need to work together to handle some ongoing challenge. When opposites find a common goal, and are willing to work together, magic happens. We could all ask--Who am I least likely to work with ordinarily, and how can I reach across and find some common interest that furthers the common good? Expect and encourage a re-politicizing of the community; more people involved, more voters registered as innovative ways of getting the word out grow the collective conversation.

8/7 Saturn in Leo trines Pluto in Sagittarius, we need to rebuild foundations, and work on how power is handled. This could literalize in a power or fuel shortage that insists we creatively reorganize how power is handled. We also need to take this metaphor deep into our souls, how do we handle power. It’s time to honor old wisdom; elders and experts are respected and their wisdom is sought for guidance, ancient teachings are revived because we will want to reach into the past for the wisdom needed to move into the future. Crones, speak up. You are on.

9/2 Saturn enters Virgo; less ego and more action ahead, the critical voice grows in the culture, we just have to keep it constructive, fertilize what we want as well as weed what we don’t; diagnosis is only the beginning. Health issues continue to be an important evolutionary catalyst this fall; potential health crisis which can lead to improved conditions in the years ahead. Women’s health organizations the world over need help now.

On the fall Equinox Mars opposes Pluto intensifying the fight for what is fair and equal, just watch that it does not degenerate into an escalating willful wrestling match or blatant war. We need to stay focused on what matters, not get sidetracked by unnecessary conflicts, and take care of our own business rather than tell others how to handle theirs.

On 12/11 Jupiter conjuncts Pluto then enters Capricorn, empowering all work in progress. If we are confronted by some intense life and death challenge in the culture, let it wake us up and help us reprioritize, inspire us to energize all that gives us hope and empowers us, and the world around.
